Wild Parrots

____________
There are many colonies of wild parrots and parakeets (conures) in the Pasadena/Altadena area of southern California. It's hard to identify exact species, especially since there's probably a lot of hybrids. The identifications are from Karen at the Parrot Project website.

One pair nested in a tree in my yard in 1999/2000. They appear to be Red-crowned Parrots (Amazona viridigenalis).

They then moved up the street to another tree. In February 2002 I caught a flock of 6 in a neighbor's tree munching on the seeds (likely a chinaberry tree). But, these are different species.
